Alice Discovers The Real Zora Neale Hurston

Alice Walker goes on a journey to discover her aunt Zora Neale Hurston's grave, while doing so she encounters many of her aunts lost history. Along the route to Zora Neale Hurston's grave Alice discovers that much of her aunt's work was unknown till she reached the town where Hurston had her home. There she spoke to people who knew her aunt enough to describe what she was like. Such people as Mrs. Moseley. While speaking to Mrs. Moseley Alice discovers that she has read Hurston's books but no longer has them because people borrowed them and never returned them. Hurston's novel's were passed along by people that knew her and helped her works get around.

Questions and Answers

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer" , what does that mean? Well it means that there is years when the year consists of many questions and there is little feed back or no answer and then theres those years when there are answers but little question.

What does the upcoming year hold for Janie? It holds many questions and not many answers. The year will bring Janie long days of asking these questions and reciving no answers. The year will be of asking many questions, with little feed back.

Independent Much?

Being able to speak and express ideas is often a sign of being an independent human bean. I believe if you can speak your mind and express your ideas you are a independent person. You clearly don't need someone to help you speak or say what you think. When people see that you express yourself and speak your mind, they say "Hey shes an independent person". A person that states their opinion and doesn't care what people think has that strong character. They think in a manner that is " I will speak my mind and do not care what anyone has to say". They show that they are independent in every form. Speaking and expressing your ideas is a clear sign of an independent person.

The Bright Night Of Gatsby

Already it was deep summer on roadhouse roofs and in front of wayside garages,
where new red gas-pumps sat out in pools of light,
and when I reached my estate at West Egg I ran the car under its shed
and sat for a while on an abandoned grass roller in the yard.

The wind had blown off, leaving a loud, bright night, with wings beating in the trees and a persistent organ sound as the full bellows of the earth blew the frogs full of life.

The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight,
and turning my head to watch it,
I saw that I was not alone — fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor’s mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding
the silver pepper of the stars.

Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn
suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby himself, come out to determine what share was his of our local heavens. (Fitzgerald 25)

What a Impression?

Can a bad first impression ever be forgotten? No especially when you do something so embarrassing that it will be remembered forever. First impressions are not always the best start when meeting someone. They tend to go wrong, even though it is not intended. First impressions can leave people on a bad hand with each other. It happens to everyone, parents with teachers, meeting your girlfriend or boyfriend's parents, or at a job interview. Even though you may not intend to give off a rude or horrible impression, it may happen with out you knowing. Sometimes it happens and you don't have the guts to ever speak to that person again. It will leave you feeling like your a total failure. To overcome that I find it extremely difficult. Many people dont ever talk to the person they made themselves look like a loser. To be honest after giving off that bad impression, I don't think you can even look at that person in the face.

Appearances

Outward appearances are at many times very deceptive. We see it all the time, all around us. When society sees a person dressed differently, they often judge right away and don't get to see what kind of person they are. Whether its the way one dresses or acts, people often see the deceptive side of the outward appearance. Often I find myself noticing people judge other people because of the way they are dressed. Just because a person dresses a different and unique way doesn't make them "weird" or an outcast. Our generation is way too concerned with our outer appearances. We are judged immediately due to our outer appearance. All you hear in our society is "look at the way he/she is dressed". We are judged simply by the way we look, when in reality that shouldn't matter. I believe what we value in America is highly substantial. Everything revolves around money and having lots of it. To me, my significant other's money or looks would not be my main concern. It would not matter how much money or the way they looked. I wouldn't say that applies to most of the Americans in this country, because looks and money is everything and the main point of concern.

Assimilate

While assimilation happens all around us not many people fully understand the term completely. Assimilate means to take in and incorporate as ones own. In simple terms it means to absorb and integrate people, ideas, or culture into a wider society or culture. Assimilation is in everything. As in the play A Raisin In The Sun. One of the plays main characters, Ruth Younger shows a massive amount of worry towards assimilation. Being the only color people in a whole entire building makes Ruth afraid of assimilation. In the play, I believe they use assimilation as a weakness. They use it to show the difference of people and how they are weak.

Assimilation happens all around each and everyone of us. People assimilate by adapting or taking in a different culture then their own. They do it to fit into society. I believe that at one point we must have assimilated in some way.For in stint learning the language (idioms and slang included), dress the same way, listen to the same music, watch the same movies and shows, and , read the same magazines and books as mainstream society.

Family or My desires

My family or my individual desires, what is more important you ask? To me my family is and will always be more important than my own desires. My family has always been there for me when I needed them or ever felt alone. I know this because family is all you have at the end. My family is the first thing that I think of whenever anything comes up. I put my individual desires last. Losing loves ones in my life has taught me that life is much better when family is your main focus. Knowing you can lose a love one gives you a much bigger reason to put your families desires first. My family’s desires come first to me because they are that important to me. Why put your own desires first? To me that sounds a little too selfish. Your Family will always be by your side no matter what. Plus knowing you think about your family before yourself makes you feel great. My family deserves to come before my own desires. Just remember without family, what do you have?
